SSH is a lot quicker to set-up connections but you'll probably never notice :-)
Initially it only had a quarter of a gig of RAM which was a bit of a bottle neck, but a rummage around has turned up a 256Meg stick, so it's a bit healthier now:
CPU states: 2.1% user, 0.5% system, 0.0% nice, 8.8% idle
Mem: 368692K av, 359672K used, 9020K free, 0K shrd, 26268K buff
Swap: 265024K av, 54200K used, 210824K free 183060K cached
If I could just get grub to read it's menu config file to save my typing in the boot commands by hand, life would be complete.
