Root Sony Z3 compact with Lolipop (Android 5.1)

Submitted by Falken on

This keeps all your data and most settings intact, so you can use your phone as you do it (though it will spend a lot of time 'optimizing apps') or stop and go out :-)
You don't need to unlock the boot loader, so the camera quality stays awesome, and you get all the bundled apps, along with the Google ones.

Use the built in update app to go from 4.4 to 5.

Then use the settings, about, update menu to update to 5.1 latest.

Install Kingroot (I used 4.8) and let it root your phone.

Raspbian and media keys

Submitted by Falken on

Just got a Raspberry Pi3 and a bluetooth keyboard and annoyed that the media keys for doing things like change the column don't work ?
Just add these to ~/.config/openbox/lxde-pi-rc.xml after all the other <keybind> before the </keyboard>

Heart of noise : first two tracks mini review

Submitted by Falken on

After a brief fight with the website, I got my advance copied of the first two tracks as part of the physical 'fan box'

Any complaints from the first part of the album that it wasn't Jarre enough with all the collaborations can be instantly dismissed.
This is him on top knob twiddling form, albeit sounding very digital.

Part one is a slow epic wide Bladerunner style piece. Goes well with the bleak snowy weather I have at the moment.

Part two speeds it up a little and underlies the melody with heavier bass beats. I think we have the making of a classic here.

Epson XP-312 ink status script

Submitted by Falken on

The following script outputs the percentage of each ink tank from an Epson XP-312 313 or 315 series WiFi enabled printer.

The output looks like

K:96 C:80 M:12 Y:34

which is perfect for feeding into Cacti or other monitoring systems. Guess I'd best go get some magenta ink !

Should you ever stop looking?

Submitted by Wheezy on

If I'd have given up 4 years ago, then my family tree would have been left looking like this....DSC04135however by never giving up searching, this week I have made contact with a relative in America. We found 1 joint relative and between our knowledge figured out that we were related. He has given me over 20 more directly related family names & story that need adding to this wall.
